Depending on where your Dachshund plays and runs you need to bath every week or at least every 2 weeks. You can bath more if you like with Wampum Conditioning Shampoo as it does not strip the sebum out of the skin and coat and restores skin barrier function. Having an in-tact skin barrier protects your dog against skin allergies and skin reactions and also against pathogens that enter via the skin.
Dilute Wampum Conditioning Shampoo with warm water 1:4 as follows: In a dilution bottle (can be an old shampoo bottle with a squirt top) mix 50ml shampoo with 200ml warm water and mix well. You can keep over the diluted shampoo you do not use for next time but do not dilute a full bottle of shampoo.
Wash the Dachshund. Take your time as the shampoo needs time to refat the skin, about 2-3 minutes. Then rinse very well.
If you would like to retain some lovely long fringing on the ears, beaches and culottes you need to condition the hair. To condition we mix about 5-10ml Wampum Conditioning Rinse in about half a litre of warm water, whisk well and pour over the dog making sure you get enough on the long hairs and underneath. I take about 5ml Wampum Conditioning Rinse neat in my hands and put it on the long-haired bits and underneath before I dilute some for the rinse which we pour over the whole dog. Now rinse partially so that some conditioner stays in the coat but not too much to give an oily look.
If you are going to blow dry your dog, then mist in some Wampum Miracle Spray Double Strength into the long hairs. I also use this to dry groom the coat between baths. It will stop matting until the next bath.
